Hydrosols (otherwise known as hydrolates, hydrolats, floral waters and plant waters) are the condensated water produced from the steam or hydro-distillation of plant materials for aromatherapeutic purposes. Essential oils are extracted from this process and the plant water that is distilled is known as hydrosols. These waters contain the therapeutic components of the plant material and are usually an effective, but cheaper, alternative to some of the very expensive essential oils.

Hydrosols are chemical-free and alcohol-free and are safe for use on even the most delicate skin. In most cases, hydrosols can be applied directly on infants and skins that are sensitive to concentrated essential oils.
